Google Tone (click to download) is a great little Chrome extension that makes sharing a URL super easy. The extension uses the speakers and microphone on your device to send a URL through a sound byte.

You can broadcast a URL to any device that is within earshot, just by clicking on the Google Tone extension. Screen Shot 2016-03-25 at 7.42.17 AM

Here are a few possible uses that I see for this extension:

  1. Don’t use a LMS with your class? Use Google Tone to share a Google Doc with everyone in 2 seconds.
  2. Quickly share a document, agenda, or website during a faculty meeting,
  3. Have students use Google Tone to share websites with others in class without having to email it to the entire class,
  4. Use Google Tone at the start of a recorded screencast to link to a document, lesson, or website. Anyone who watches the screencast will be able to access the information. (I have not tested this idea yet)

Here’s a demo of the extension…
