Finally! Google has been saying that this feature would be released before school started up in September. Well they have kept their word. As of today, when I logged into Google Classroom, I received a notice of their recent updates, and now parents or guardians can get notifications about student activities.

Here are a few highlights:

  • As the teacher in Classroom, I can now invite parents or guardians to get updates. They can elect receive daily or weekly activity updates about their child.
  • Once a guardian has been invited and accepted the invitation, the teacher can choose to email just that guardian, or can actually email all guardians of students in a class at the same time.
  • Once a guardian is invited by one teacher, they do not have to be invited again by another teacher of the same student.

Before a teacher can invite guardians, the setting must be turned on by the domain’s Google Admin. However, it was turned on by default for my domain.

Use the toggle button on the left to turn on the feature, then click next to each student to invite their parent or guardian.

Check out the Google Support page for this feature.
