I’ve always wondered why this wasn’t a feature many iOS versions ago… This is something that I’ve been waiting for for a long time. You can now scan QR (Quick Response) codes with the native Camera app in iOS 11!

I tested this out with the developer beta this afternoon and it works well. I was able to scan a variety of different styled QR codes this afternoon. The app was quick, responsive, and accurate. I’m going to like being able to just use the camera app for QR codes because sits so easy to pull out your phone and swipe to the right. Boom, now you are scanning QR codes.

I was a little surprised that Apple didn’t discuss this feature during the WWDC preview of iOS 11, but there were so many features to talk about, that this just didn’t get top billing.

You have to turn it on to use this feature in iOS 11. Go into Settings/Camera and turn on Scan QR codes. Now just hold your phone over a QR code and a box pops up with the web address. Tap the box to visit the site or use the information from the QR code.
